THE CITY IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP DISTRIBUTE FOOD

North Liberty is partnering with Johnson County for a free grocery distribution event for low-income families with children ages 4-18, and they are looking for volunteers! Set up begins at noon and the distribution will take place from 2 until 6pm on August 20, 2025. Sign up to volunteer here.

The City hopes to serve 1600 children in those four hours so please spread the word to area families. Download a flyer here with versions in English, Spanish, French and Swahili. Learn more.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW FROM CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES?

Anti-racism, social justice, and equitable policies for all people in North Liberty depend significantly upon the representation, commitments, and agency of elected officials. Elected city leaders have the power to develop policies and budgets that create an equitable environment in policing, housing, access to services, and business infrastructure of North Liberty. On November 4, 2025, North Libertarians will elect a mayor and two city councilors for the next four-year term, and once again our group will survey candidates to collect information on platforms as they relate to anti-racism and social justice, and to provide North Liberty voters with information to inform their voting decisions.

If you could ask candidates anything about anti-racism and social justice in North Liberty, what would it be? Submit your question ideas for the survey to arsjnorthliberty@gmail.com.

SPEAKING OF THE CITY COUNCIL ELECTION: ARE YOU NORTH LIBERTY'S NEXT CITY COUNCILOR?

Have you ever thought about serving your community at a deeper level, helping to build our city into a more just and equitable community? Running for city council is an impactful way to do that.

Our city is governed by a city council of five of our neighbors, plus a non-voting mayor (also a North Libertarian, of course). City councilors serve four-year terms. On November 4, 2025, we will elect a mayor and two councilors for the next term.

Here are some frequently asked questions from the Secretary of State about running for office. Candidates who would like to be on the November ballot will need to collect 50 signatures and file papers before September 18.

Want to know first-hand what is involved in being a North Liberty city councilor? Email Councilperson Erek Sittig at erek.sittig@northlibertyiowa.org.

Thanks for considering! Reach out to arsjnorthliberty@gmail.com if this group can help.
